We are still in the process of transitioning our product packaging and web photos, so please check back periodically for updates. We'll continue to refine, de-bug and improve the site as we go, so if you see any glitches or have any problems, please contact us at info@soothingherbals.com. We thank you for your patience.

Chickens! May 04 2011, 0 Comments

Last week we got 6 chickens. My husband built a deluxe hen-house for them, putting the finishing touches on it on our son's birthday. We brought them home in the evening, showed them their new digs, and the very next day they each laid an egg! We were so excited. We have 3 Aruca Ameracauna hens and 3 Cuckoo Marans. The Arucas lay blue eggs, which were perfect for Easter, and the Marans lay big brown eggs. It is satisfying knowing that we will not have to go to town to buy eggs anymore. The kids are thrilled and our dog, Kenai is even more excited and curious than ever.

What an auspicious full moon we got for this year’s Spring Equinox. It was the brightest and biggest full moon ever, or so I heard, since it was the closest the Earth has been to the moon in 18 years. An incredible event to mark New beginnings and the cycle of Life. We planted our seeds and look forward to all the new life that has yet to take form this year. We have a lot of news to share with you this month. The Flu? March 06 2011, 0 Comments

I’ve just recovered from a violent illness. It felt like the flu, but I’m not sure what it was. It first hit my son with a fever that lasted 5 days then gave him a nasty cough, and when it hit me, I got a headache, fever, chills, runny nose, muscle aches, and could not get out of bed. The Dr. says it couldn’t be the flu because it only lasted 2- 3 days, but if it was, I have the herbs to thank for shortening the duration. We took Elder berry and flower 3x a day, drank Tulsi, Lemongrass and Fennel tea constantly, and slept for 3 days. We also used essential oils for my son’s fever- a foot bath of roman chamomile, lavender, lemon and eucalyptus, a steam with eucalyptus and rosemary, and a warm compress of roman chamomile and lavender on his forehead. The scary part was when the fever got up to 105.9 and then lasted forever. Thankfully it broke and it is all behind us now. Having herbs on hand really helped, but in hindsight I think I will stock up on Boneset for next time. Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum) is a great herb for intermittent fever/chills and muscle aches, and though I made it thru without it this time around, I plan to have it on hand if there’s a next time. In general, it is always a good idea to have herbs on hand for unexpected illnesses like this.

From Jeanne Rose Aromatherapy March 01 2011, 0 Comments

From Jeanne Rose Aromatherapy Studies Course “It is very difficult to describe an essential oil because they are not visible when in the plant. Essential oils are only visible as a liquid when they are released by some means such as distillation, CO2 extraction, or mechanical or a physical process. They are located in the plant, in glandular hairs or cells or scales; oil cells and resin cells; oil or resin canals; and oil reservoirs. They can be defined “as the scent of the plant in its liquid or vapor form.”…Jeanne Rose 1990
